Bajaj XCD 125:

After the partial success of Platina in 100cc, now Bajaj has turned their eyes to the 125cc motorcycle market in India. The New XCD 125 is aimed to target the 125cc motorcycle buyers. The XCD 125 has a 125cc DTS-Si (Digital Twin Spark Swirl Induction Engine), 4-Stroke, Air-Cooled engine with a 4 speed manual gearbox. Its 125cc power-plant can generate 9.53PS power at 7,000rpm. and 10.85Nm torque at 5,000rpm. By using its own patented DTS-Si technology Bajaj achieve 109Kmpl mileage in standard condition which makes it the most fuel efficient bike in 125cc category.

The bike is pegged to bridge the gap between the entry level segment (100cc) and the high-end segment (150cc). Since early this year, Bajaj said that it was working on the non-100cc segment and that there would be no new products in the entry level segment.

The bike will deliver the fuel efficiency of a 100cc bike combined with the performance of a 150cc one. It has taken about three years for the company to develop the model with some design skill from its technical partner Kawasaki.

The XCD 125 has a ride control switch to facilitate the biker to identify the optimum throttle opening to get the better mileage. Its finest alloy wheels, prismatic pilot headlamps, matt finished black silencer, sporty console, sleek chrome graphics, graphite tinted engine and chrome streaked side panels makes it the eye catching bike. Bajaj introduced this bike with the price tag of Rs. 41,000 (ex-showroom), which is same as Hero Honda?s 100 cc Splendor which is priced at Rs 41,000. Its price tag gives it a good start. Bajaj hopes to sell more than 1,00,000 XCD 125 in the upcoming year. With inauguration of this bike, Bajaj renewed their interest to capture the lower segment bike market of India.

Rajiv Bajaj, managing director of Bajaj Auto, said, "We have priced the bike according to the market trend, and expect to derive a profit margin of about Rs 3,000 on each bike sold."

"We have strong vendor backup which can support our production target of 50,000 units a month. This will make the model the third most produced bike in India," said Rajiv, who was addressing a large get-together of the company's vendors.

In keeping with its trend, the company will launch a few more products based on the Exceed platform without taking out the focus on the ungeared scooter segment, where the company plans to launch high powered, sporty scooterette Blade by 2008.
