Nano:

The most eagerly awaited low-cost Indian - People?s Car has been finally shown in public for the first time at the New Delhi Auto Expo. Nano is a dream of Ratan Tata. It is a four seater car and has a 624 cc engine mounted under the rear seat. The manufacturer claims that the 33hp engine meets current Euro IV emissions standards and is cleaner than most of the scooters running around on Indian streets right now. They also claim that the car has passed frontal and side impact tests although no mention is currently made of what standard they are testing too.

The Nano will be without air conditioner. However, upper level will be with an air conditioner. But experts doubt whether 33 hp engine will be able to move the car and run air condition at the same time. The interior includes non-reclining seats for four, a four speed manual transmission, and a dashboard comprising of speed-o-meter, fuel gauge and oil light. Tata claims that the Nano can achieve 23 Kmpl without air conditioner. The sales target is 5,00,000 units in the first year. Tata claims that the car meets safety and environmental standards (such as Euro IV emissions compliance), and it won't be long before tests show whether the car is indeed up to snuff in those areas. Say hello to the new "people's car," brought to you by the same people who will market Jaguar in near future. We'd say that if all goes as planned, Tata's got just about all possible demographic covered.

Booking of Tata Nano:

Forms for booking Tata Nano are available at Tata Nano dealers and SBI and PNB Bank branches. 100 branches are appointed for booking. Forms are available on payment of Rs, 300. The estimated booking figure is more than 5 lakhs.

To get a booking of 5 lakhs car, at least 15 lakhs forms should be sold. I don't know how this Rs. 300 taken from "Garib" people (as the car is for "Garib") will be distributed between dealers, banks and Tata Motors itself. Calculate the amount that will be collected by this. Rs. 300 x 15 Lakhs = 45 crores. I don't think the amount is small.

Rs. 70000 is to be paid at time of application. Again calculate the figure. 70 thousand x 15 lakh= 105,000,000,000.

Now what you think about the capacity of producing Nano in first year? It is just 1 lakh.

From 5 lakh application, only 1 lakh will get the car, so lucky draw system will be followed. And market will see black marketing of the car.

So Tata couldn't keep its words. Indirectly, the car is more costly than what it is advertised.

And Tata Motors has got many benefits from Gujarat Government. Is there any clause in the agreement that if Tata Motors can't sell the car by Rs. 1 lakh, all the benefits given will be taken back.
