Solar Car from Toyota:

 A Japanese newspaper is reporting that Toyota is working on a first-of-its-kind production version of a solar powered car. If the reports are indeed accurate, the car would be a truly remarkable milestone as it would become one of the world's greenest vehicles.

The initial vehicle would receive some of its electricity from solar panels mounted on the roof with the rest being provided by solar panels installed on the owner's house. These would recharge the car's batteries when it is parked in the garage. According to the report, Toyota eventually hopes to build a vehicle that would be able to be completely powered by solar cells mounted on the car.

If the company is actually working on such a vehicle, production would be several years away as numerous technological hurdles remain. However with Toyota's hybrid battery partner, Panasonic, taking over rival Sanyo, the company could eventually gain access to their solar energy experts perhaps speeding up development of the new car.

Toyota is no stranger to rumors about installing solar panels on their vehicles. Recently several sources have suggested that the company will offer a solar panel roof on the redesigned Prius shortly after it launches.
